Spatial science today more important than ever before
Worldwide the demands, conflicts and problems connected with sustainable land use and vital natural resources are increasing. The dynamics of globalisation, European integration and the transformation processes in Central and Eastern Europe enhance. Consequences are far-reaching changes regarding space. In towns and regions contrasts grow. Changed spatial conditions have specific impacts on the economic and social living conditions and the natural base of all human beings.
The complex interdependences between humanity and space are the focal interests of spatial science. "Space" and the dynamics of spatial development processes are not only points of reference but central areas of research. To detect changes of spatial structures long periods of observations and interdisciplinary research teams are necessary. Spatial sciences deal with the question of how a sustainable development is possible - spatial science is science for the future.
