The Leibniz Institute for Regional Development and Structural Planning (IRS) located in Erkner (close to Berlin) examines the spatial social and economic basics and planning perspectives for regions and towns.
The research conducted by the IRS deals with the following topics: strategies for regionalisation, institutional change, regional structures and restructuring of towns as well as knowledge milieus in the context of transformation processes.
