4R-Project Cooperation: Territorial Planning in the GDR

On April 20, 2005 the work group "Territorial Planning in the GDR" got together for their 7th meeting in Leipzig. It was time to take stock of the evaluation phase of the interviews and to discuss the final form of the evaluation.

The questioning (42 interviews according to a guideline that was compiled previously) is finished. The extensive statements of contemporary witnesses have been recorded and most of the interviews have already been authorised by the interviewees. The available interview material is currently evaluated and summarised in a synopsis.

It is intended to present the results in the "Berichte zur Deutschen Landeskunde" (Issue 4/2005). For this reason short articles about individual former GDR districts are composed and put in an overall context.

The 4R Institutes have agreed to collect and document the archive material about the planning history in the GDR in the Institute for Regional Development and Structural Planning (IRS) in Erkner. Contact: Dipl.-Ing. Alexander Obeth, Tel. +49 3362 793124, e-mail: ObethA@irs-net.de.

Dr. Bruno Schelhaas and Dr. Ute Wardenga will check whether the compiled material provides a basis for further research projects. They will compose a draft which will be discussed in a work group meeting in October.
